My Revelation

One night in July last year, I had a revelation.

No, I’m not crazy. No, I haven’t lost “it.” (I’m from California, so please give me some slack.

It came to me as an image of the constellation.

I saw the moon and some planets, but they were secondary. The main focal point, in clear view, were 18 bright and shiny stars.

There were no identifying features for each star, which didn’t matter because at that moment I knew what each star represented.

And that's what made this vision so overwhelming and electric.

Each star represented a person, a moment, or an experience — the forces that brought me to where I am today.

This vision, and revelation, brought on tremendous gratitude. (I wrote a few email thank you notes.) It gave me information and insight into how I could continue on my current path and be a better an advocate for performers and composers.

Well, enough about me, what does this have to do about you?

I'm recommending a two part exercise, where first you identify those triggering moments, people, influences — the forces that brought you to who you are at this precise moment. It could be something dramatic and huge, but it could also be a small moment that generated something dramatic and huge. Several of these moments are obvious, but over a few days or so, others will pop up in your mind.

Now, Here’s the second part of the process:

Identify, create, and design your own present day moment influences. Who and what are today’s current forces that will continue to bring you to where you want to be with your career, and especially your passion projects.

It will be a creative exercise and a revealing experience that you won't be able to stop once you start.

"Classical on!"
