"Close enough for Jazz" When is good enough… good enough?
Jazz disrespect aside, there are a couple of ways we could interpret this often-heard phrase at the end of a rehearsal.
“Well, this is as best as we can do right now. We’re out of time, but I think we can bring it off.”
Or,
“We’re out of time. It’s close enough for Jazz.”
With the latter, I’m speculating that this will be an uncommitted performance lacking conviction. It’s a “we got by” unmemorable performance.
So, when is good enough, good enough?
Is this you? Your 80% excellence is other’s 100%.
Meaning, when you give your 80%, you’re still well ahead of the pack
You make the call.
Sometimes, your 80% is more than good enough, especially when it’s time to move on to your next project.
That’s close enough for classical.
