When They Go Dumb, We Go Dumber: A Recipe for Calm for the Times in Which we Currently Live
I wish I could remember the comedian I recently saw talking about a way to deal with some for misinformed, inaccurate, and conspiratory thoughts and actions that have seemingly taken hold in the U-S. His recommendation when this happens? We say something even dumber.
I thought about this strategy when I asked a friend what he thought about the recent renaming of the Kennedy Center.
“I can see both sides of the ne-naming of the Center.”
“Sides?”
“Yeah, I was there a couple of weeks ago. The place was a total wreck, and he fixed it.”
Taking that comedian’s recommendation, I said,
“You’re right, he has fixed it, like the addition of a Hooters restaurant in the lobby is genius. Boobs, Burgers, and Beethoven. That’s brilliant.”
“Wha?”
“And the casino that’s going where the iconic statue of JFK used to be is another stroke of genius. Cards, Craps, and Copland. It’s going to be classic – am I right?
