You’ve likely heard of the term, “5 second rule.” If not, it’s the now debunked belief that if you pick up food that fell on the floor, it’s still safe to eat before 5 seconds is up.
As I said it’s not true.
With websites, there’s a five second rule that is true.
You have 5 seconds to grab someone’s attention before they leave your website.
What are you telling your website visitors in those first five seconds?
Keeping them for those five seconds earns you an additional five seconds.
What are you telling your website visitors in those additional five seconds?
Cutting to the chase, if you play your website cards right, you can tell your website visitors all they need to know about you in 40 seconds. Meaning, they’re going to keep scrolling to learn even more about you, to give them more detail about what you told them in 40 seconds.
Look at your website homepage, and “listen” to what you’re saying about yourself in 5 seconds.
